TOP 20 BOGUS DIETS OF 2016

There are many fad diets that come out every year that promise weight loss and good health.  Most diets have positive and negative factors. The most important point is that when you lose weight it should be in a healthy way. Diets that promise weight loss fast often do not address healthy foods and feeling satisfied with what you eat.

These are the top bogus diets of 2016 that consumers should watch out for. They are the 5 Bite Diet, The Raw Food Diet, The Master Cleanse Diet, The Blood Type Diet and The HCG Diet. Most of these diets restrict calories, eliminate certain foods, and expect the dieter to buy special foods and products.  Most have not been studied long enough to know what the result will be.

The Five Bite Diet

This diet works on the principle that if you eat less you will lose weight.  Instead of counting calories you count bites.  On this diet you skip breakfast and are only allowed five bites of food at lunch and dinner. It provides your body with less than 800 calories of food per day. You can drink as much as you like as long as you drink beverages without calories.  This diet encourages you to take a multivitamin to get the vitamins and nutrient s you need.

The problem with the diet is that you skip breakfast a meal that often helps you start the day right. This can lead to hunger pangs that will make you want to eat junk food.  Eating five bites of any type of food does not give you’re the vitamins, minerals, and nutrients that your body needs to functions properly. It sounds like a crash diet.

In this diet, there is no mention of fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, protein from meats, chicken and fish or dairy products.  A good diet should provide with all of the above.  Diets that leave you with hunger pangs and do not satiate your appetite lead to bingeing on foods that you should not eat. Overall this diet has really little to offer the dieter. Due to lack of nutrients, you could feel dizzy, sick to your stomach, and tired while on it.

The Master Cleanse Diet

This is a diet that is meant to last 3 to 10 day long. You squeeze fresh lemon juice into 8 ounces of water; add maple syrup and cayenne pepper. They recommend that you do this six to 12 times daily.  This drink is a diuretic that allows you to lose water weight quickly. The diet only let’s you have between 600 to 1,200 calories per day.  Once you stop using the lemonade drink the weight will come back quickly.

They do suggest eating fresh fruits and vegetables but protein is not mentioned. Protein is often what makes you feel full and satisfied. This diet suggests taking a laxative daily which is not a good way to lose weight and could be addicting. Due to the lack of nutrients and vitamins this diet you may feel dizzy, nauseous, and sick to your stomach.

The Raw Food Diet

On the raw food diet, you eat fruits, vegetables and grains. They provide you with plenty of vitamins and nutrients and due to lower calories, you lose weight.  On this diet you do not get the required protein your body needs or calcium from dairy products. The diet suggests only eating raw food and not cooking it.

In some cases, it’s better to cook vegetables because it kills bacteria and germs.  Another point is that cooking breaks down food. Fresh produces has cellulose which is hard for the body to digest.  This can cause bloating and constipation or indigestion. It is expensive because organic food cost more and would not fit into everyone’s budget. It requires prep work to prepare the fruits and vegetables, washing and cutting.

Another point is some foods are not pasteurized this can lead to food-borne illnesses. This diet is not good for pregnant women, children or the elderly. This diet combines with one that includes protein, dairy products, and oils would improve it immensely.

The Blood Type Diet

The blood type diet is based on the premise that if you eat food that is good for your blood type your body will digest it better. This means you will lose weight more easily. Type O blood should eat foods high in protein, vegetables and limited grains.  There are some supplements that go with this blood type.

For Type A should eat a meat-free diet with protein, fruit, vegetables and whole grains.  Organic and fresh food are recommended. Type B blood must avoid corn, wheat, lentils, and chicken. They should eat green vegetables, low-fat dairy, eggs, and certain types of meat.  Finally, Type AB patients should eat seafood, dairy, vegetables and tofu. Patients with this type of blood have low stomach acid.

The problem with this diet is that it is based on blood types.  It limits what you eat. It recommends many specialty foods that cost money and are expensive. There is not enough research to support this diet and how whether it works.   This diet fails to address other chronic health conditions that might be affected by it.

HCG Diet

This diet allows you only about 500 calories a day. It advocated taking a hormone that is an appetite suppressant called chorionic gonadotropin. From studies, there is not enough evidence that this supplement really works. You will lose weight due to the extreme calorie restriction in this diet.  This hormone is often given to women during pregnancy.  This diet must be adhered to for at least eight weeks.

The low-calorie intake will lead to serious hunger pangs.  With this diet, you skip breakfast and have lunch and dinner. Each meal allows protein, vegetable, bread and fruit. You can broil or grill lean meat, poultry and certain fish.  Higher calorie meats and fish are not allowed. Bread is only a breadstick or Melba toast. The diet allows plenty of fresh vegetables and some fruits.

The diet takes considerable effort since so many foods are not allowed.  It can lead to dizziness, fainting and nausea due to such low calories. Because so many foods are eliminated the body does not get the nutrients it needs.

These fad diets have some good factors but overall are weight loss diets that are not sound. Always check with your doctor before going on a diet and look for a diet that has studies backing up its claims or results. There are many diets that work and they have been used for years. Fad diets need time and studies to back them up.
